Inspiring Individuals
Inspiring Individuals.
There are lots of inspirational people in this world. Some have come and gone, and some are yet to be born. Some, don’t even, and may never, realize just how inspiring and how they have touched others lives. Some shared their views and ideals, even though they knew that they may have consequences as result.
Some inspiring individuals to me are: Gandhi, Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King, Jr. , and Siddhartha Gautama.
Gandhi:as you may know from previous blogs, I am really interested in Indian culture, but, I think what first got me to even notice India in the way in which I do today is in thanks to this guy. He grew up in a time in which India was under British colonial rule, and though unhappy, he took a stand through nonviloence resistance. He was an extraordinary man, and I dont think I could even sum up. It is my hope, that one day, we will realize that war is not the answer and that these can be accomplished through nonviolence, he is and was proof of that.
“Be the change you want to see in the world”
Dalai Lama: (Tenzin Gyatso) what I love the most about him is that he says “My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.” If everyone lived by that, I could only imagine. He and I share similar beliefs that, all regions share the same message of love, and no matter if you have a claimed religion or not, you should always be kind. He also stresses the importance of volunteering, or lending a hand, and although he doesnt belittle those who dont, he simply says just dont cause harm, and by doing that you are helping.
“All major religious traditions carry basically the same message, that is love, compassion and forgiveness the important thing is they should be part of our daily lives. “
Mother Teresa: this woman was incredible. She dedicated her life to be an advocate and humatarian to the poor and “helpless”. I am very into volunteering and try my best to do it every summer, and where ever I can, of course not to the extent that she did.
Martin Luther King, Jr.: Just like Gandhi, he to demonstrated his discontent through, not harsh words and violence, but nonviolence and postiveness. He showed people that color is only skin deep, and we are the same on the inside. He also knew that change would not happen overnight, and that it will always be a continuous struggle, but worth the fight. I recently posted one of his quotes to my facebook after the death of Osama Bin Laden, I was struggling to find the words in why I was unhappy with everyones reaction to his death. I knew that he did terrible things, but to me celebrating it only dehumanized us in the process. But then I found one of MLK quotes and he talked about how he mourned the loss of thousands but would not rejoice in the loss of one, not even an enemy, that returning hate for hate multiplies hate.
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
But it doesnt stop with just those that inspire me, I believe we meet the people we do in our lives for a reason, and find that even those that are negative are inspirational, inspiring me to rise above.
